Joshua Buyukyilmaz - Trip to Ireland

In July-August I re-did president Kennedy's trip to Ireland. I stayed in Wexford and from there I went to New Ross. I saw the life size statue of the president. I met with John F. Kennedy's third cousin, who still lives on and farms the old family homestead.

 

My High Street Radio Proggramme

In Mal Reading class we worked on a radio recording of our high street were the task was to record people in our local area and it had to had to be a 10-15min proggramme were ask questions to members of our community but my issue was that everyone I wanted to interview was foriegn and only understood what they were selling however I am happy with my final result.Because after a small series of retorical questions were the interviewee and the interviewer can repeat the question.My next task was to edit my report on adobe audition CS5.

                      Today's radio debate was all about the police strike on Thursday 10th of May.

I had a debate on sureilance which went extremly well.I also had phone calls discussing the subject.

Wednesday's Radio show

On Wednesday I had my first radio presenting show were I was able to interview two people as at the time there was a edducation fair and some drama student read some monalogues and I was able to interview the drama teacher and I was lucky enough to have some photos taken.

Reading's Radio

In Mal Readings calss we are having leasons in radio and have been put in groups and this week my group my group is presenting and runing the lunch time radio show however next week my group will be finding and running the news bulletins and on friday I had extra radio sesstions with Milo.

15 MINUTES OF FAME

In Mal Reading class we worked on a radio recording exercise were the task was to record one person a small series of retorical questions were the interviewee and the interviewer can repeat the question.then my next task was to edited the audio on adobe audition.

The questions that I had asked

1. If you were on a desert island and you had to lisen to one song what would it be and why?
2. If you had to eat one meal for the rest of you're life what would it be?
3. What is you're favourite tv/film show and why ?
4. What makes you who you are?
5. If you could change one thing about the would today what would it be?

I happened to ask several people due to there responses and how they whanted to responed and also how the responses sounded on the recording device and I kept recording as many people as I could till I found the perfect interview.

Once I had found the perfect the interviewee I had to go onto the Adobe Auditionn CS5 and edit the audio plus getting sound effects that go with the answers.

CCR Fortunate Son Music Video Evaluation

1. The idea that occurred to me to do Fortunate Son Music Video was because I wanted the music video to give the theme of the 1960s and early 70s as the song had to do a lot with the period and many themes associated with it e.g. the Vietnam War. The genre of my music video is an action/historical/rock genre.

My audience was a diverse British inner city sample from my inner city college. 

I selected the song for emotional resonance even though the title is quite unknown to most British audiences. I expected my audience to recognise the both the song and my treatment of the genre e.g. archive footage of the period. Consequently, I used archive footage of a particular period which is of strong interest to me and to what I thought suited the song. I felt that the song had the potential to fit well with the documentary/archive footage.

In developing my idea for a music video, I came across a comment by a former Vietnam veteran solder who credited the song as having saved his life from the Vietcong army.  This made a very profound impact on me. Therefore I was encouraged to do the music video even more using this time period around this particular song.  As a result, I chose action packed archive footage of this time period.  This was to reinforce the history and my own emotional resonance to the time period.

Feedback:

Although the use of archive footage from contemporary wars was suggested, I felt that I had to emphasise and showcase and reinforce American industrial military

power. Therefore I utilised U-2 jet fights deploying a carpet of bombs on the command of a solider in Vietnam.

2. Pre-production

The paperwork in pre-production was provide through templates and I went through them and filled each one out for example a call sheet which tells you who’s directing the video and who’s in it what there phone numbers are and where to meet them along with a map along with travel directions. I also found The Lyrics to the song on the internet this helped me as I was more able to focus on the music video then worry about creating lots of paper work. After paperwork was completely,

Production-filming

I began filming with a digital Olympic camera.  I also found this process to be quick as I decided to play the song twice and then chose which one is the best take. I also decided to use editing software off the internet as I wanted to be ahead of the game.

Post production- editing

After filming I decided to use editing software off the internet as I wanted to be ahead of the game. So I downloaded Video pad video editor. Then in post Lip synchronising with camera and sound were adjusted stuff was put on the computer, I had to retrieve the song and then sync the two together

3. What went well?

During the entire process I felt that that the only thing that went well during all the 3 stages of production I feel that the stage that went well was the production process. This because there was no paper work involved and I got to do everything in my own way and in my own time.

What went badly?

As much as I enjoy the filming I did not enjoy the pre-production paper work as I thought that my production did not necessarily need off of the pre-production paperwork needed to film my music video.

4. What the audience thought?

My audience reaction sheet was quite short and sweet because I wanted the audience to complete it I used closed questions. This is also the result of getting a lot of information in a short period of time and

4/12 thought that the music video was good and 8/12 thought that the music video was awesome I’m not sure if the group really thought it was good or awesome but I certainly feel that they learnt something from it as it was based on a important part of American 20th centaury

Do you think that there was a good mixture between archive footage and the video footage? :

Yes/no 5/12 thought that the music video wasn’t a good mixture as 6 out of 12 thought that the music video was a perfect mixture of archive footage and live action filmed footage.

Do you think the video could be having improved in anyway? :

Yes/no

3/12 thought that the video did not need much improvement as 8/12 thought that the video did not need improvement

Do you think that the video was very patriotic? :

Yes/no

12/12 the whole classes opinion thought that the music video was very patriotic and one person said that it was very Americana.

6. What I have learned

I think that the video could have been improved with better editing with the live action even thought I think that there was a even amount of archive and live action footage in the music video and I also feel that my video has a strong message at the end of it. However but I also think that because of the audience reaction sheet the feedback there isn’t a lot I can say about what I have learnt about my music video experience.

This is a blog that I have created on the website blogspot.com where I have placed some of the work and things relevant to my work in other classes the idea of having a blog was first introduced to me as it would be a good use of putting work on it and it would be easy for everyone who needs to read it however I have not posted that much and am still in the learning process of how to post things as I find it quiet difficult but I have been able to put my own videos on and I have my own utube channel my work that is relevant to this part of the course is at the bottom and is filled with issues of the magazine that I wrote film reviews for. In this process of creating my blog I have also been able to add my own photo of me holding a Z-1 camera which makes the blog more independent and personal.

Editing my video

I was hoping to edit the end of my video where I have a quote from the former president John f. Kennedy the editing softwere in which I used I the thecnichain Peter told me that sometimes with editing softwere which is taken from the the internet and it takes and scambles any alot of code in the sofwere and though the footage worked well peter was unable to evan import it into another softhwere which was in the adobe file.

Though I had safed a copy of the video that I had shot I also am dissappointed in the fact that I now have to edit in adobe premeire when it took we a long time to film my music video and for the first time I felt a sense of acompleshment.Peter had had spoken to me in alot of thecno lingo so I mainly just noded along but I could tell that it the news was not good.

However I can't get the song off the internet by using one of the convertion websites like I could do originaly so I have footage except with just now music so now I can't edit. so last minuate Taasia sugessted that we go back to the original plan by using softwere to create diffrent title for the JFK quote at the end of the music video.

I am very enthusiastic about the filmmaking process from begging to end. I intend to become a writer director in the film industry and having have finished my BETEC level 3 in media production I am enthusiastic about continuing my media experience. As a director you’re the leader and you’re in charge of everything thing and everyone’s performance on screen and behind the camera

3. Can you say at what moment you seriously considered that you might like to work in the media?

The first time I had the epiphany of when I wanted to become a writer director was when I saw James Cameron’s film Terminator 2 judgment day. This enraptured my imagination as it had a brilliant story and special effects and it is in the science fiction genre and science fiction /fantasy is my favourite genre.

5 trained killer solders are sent to the planet kwerk in the 17th planet solar system who leave their families and planet earth to stop the evil communist captain powers. Captain Powers who has taken over control full power of the planet kwerk and the United States have teamed up with the United Kingdom to send the best soldiers on a top secret mission to capture captain powers. However there other orders are shoot to kill against captain powers henchmen but to protect the civilians on the planet.

Team Awesome PowerPoint Presentation

In my groups PowerPoint presentation which was about gathering all of our information on what we want to do in the industry and putting it into one group power point presentation which would be edited to the best of the group’s ability of what we thought the best information was in order.

The presentation had about 26 slides and was meant to be presented in under 10 minuets’ these slides were divided between the eight of us and we individually presented our own slide at two or three various times depending how many slides we wanted as some wanted more slides than other members of the group.

When recording the performance I was quiet nervous as my memory/attention span is very short and I thought it would be presented well. However I thought that everyone else presented their slides better than mine even before look back at the final product.

Now that I have looked back at my presentation performance I think that I performed reasonably well even though I had slides with limited dialogue. Evan thought our group had technical difficulty’s we envisioned and imagined that we could accomplish to performe AWESOME!

This camera was advertised to me a the raindance saturday film school this camera the Flip Ultra records 120 minutes recording it has 8GB Memory & Image Stabilisation.

It's function is very basic:

• Red button records.
• Positive and negitive signs zoom in and out .
• It records in HD.
• The best part of it is that is has a USB connection so you can load you're movies and it Takes about eight seconds to do.
• It has rechargeable battaries which recharge when USB is pluged in.

Today I have discovered the diffrence between all of ower music video's and I helped in the making of lucy's music video and there are many for example besides archive footage evan though I am still in it is patriotic and it never had a offical music video. the diffrence between lucy's from mine is that according to her,her music video is a piss take I'm not sure on what exactly it's taking the piss out off because it's not the offical music video that for sure.

Production paper work and final deadlines before submition

Evan though I have created my production paperwork complete work storyboards and my final product has more or less nothithing to do with it I found out that I still have two weeks of filming under my belt until the 28th of January until 17th of Febuary were it all has to be handed in and edited.

My optimsum

Having seen some shots and other clips from the other groups I feel that my music video is slightly underated,however I do feel that the music that I have chosen suits the footage both archive and live action footage which has to do with seval social issues:

1. Paitroisuim
2. WAR (Veitnam)
3. The end of a Camelot with the archive of  the Kennedy Assasination.

Having created a video over the Cristmas period I was hopinging to talk to my tutour but unfortionatly she was absent and I was very nervours about Tassia's opinion on what I had made:

After sending a email about the fact that I have used a diffrent softwere on editing my tutor Tassia has analyed the video with me evan though I was quiet nevous about her opinion. I was pleased to find out that she was very pleased but would like me to have some animation and a little more footage of me but this time she would like me to edit on Adobe premeire CS5.
